With PostNord’s decision to leave the letter market, many Danes and businesses are facing a new reality. At dao, we are ready to take responsibility and ensure stable, nationwide letter delivery – just as we have done for years.
Building on strong experience
For more than 100 years, we have distributed newspapers, handled parcels for over 13 years, and delivered letters and magazines for more than 20 years. Today, we already cover 25% of the letter market and more than half of the magazine market – and we are ready to take on even greater responsibility.
“We are not stepping into unknown territory. We anticipated this development, and although it is happening faster than expected, we are ready. This is not a new beginning for us but a natural continuation of our work,” says Hans Peter Nissen, CEO of dao.
Room for growth without drastic changes
dao handles over 150 million shipments annually, and an expected increase of 50 million letters and magazines will not require drastic changes. Our network is already nationwide, and we have the capacity to scale up, ensuring that we can continue delivering mail and parcels efficiently.
“Whether it’s letters, magazines, newspapers, or parcels, it makes no difference. We have handled major changes before, most recently during the COVID-19 pandemic when a significant increase in parcel volumes was successfully managed,” says Hans Peter Nissen.
Mailboxes remain – and new customers are joining
With 1,523 red dao mailboxes placed in our parcel shops across the country, Danes can continue to send letters easily and securely. At the same time, we are seeing great interest from small and medium-sized businesses looking for a new letter delivery provider following PostNord’s exit.
“We have a customer service team of over 60 employees, available by phone or email, ready to find a solution for anyone in need of letter distribution,” says Lars Balsby, Sales Director at dao.
The letter lives on
While PostNord is withdrawing from the letter market, dao has no plans to follow suit. On the contrary.
“We will be here tomorrow, in five years, and in ten years. Many believe that letters are disappearing, but they still play an important role. They are still used for payment cards, health insurance cards, postcards, and confirmation invitations. Additionally, nearly 300,000 citizens are exempt from Digital Post, and up to 600,000 mailings are sent to the blind and visually impaired,” says Lars Balsby.
We stand firm: dao is ready to ensure stable and future-proof letter delivery in Denmark – every day, all year round.
