As a leading Danish provider of logistics solutions, we are always busy with deliveries. This places high demands on efficient logistics in our nationwide network of parcel shops. To maintain and improve efficiency, we have entered into a collaboration with Delfi Technologies.
dao delivers parcels and all forms of mail 365 days a year. An extensive network of daoSHOPs serves as pickup locations for customers who prefer the convenience of picking up their parcels whenever they like. dao is known for efficient delivery times and user-friendly logistics services.
Efficient and Error-Free Parcel Handling
A close collaboration with Delfi Technologies plays a crucial role in our logistics. Here, an efficient logistics solution helps ensure easy and error-free handling of parcels through the use of more than 2,000 handheld terminals and 1,000 label printers in our more than 1,200 daoSHOPs.
The Corona epidemic significantly increased the number of parcel deliveries and pickup locations. Danes were shopping online more than ever, resulting in extra busyness. To keep up, we were forced to expand the number of parcel shops so the many thousands of parcels could be delivered to recipients. The increased busyness and the larger number of parcel shops also created a need for more handheld terminals for parcel registration and label printers for printing parcel labels for submitted parcels.
“The volume of parcels we handled doubled from one day to the next. And as the volume increased, we needed to find equipment that was both easy and fast for our parcel shops to use,” says Lars Balsby, Sales Director at dao.
Accurate Delivery of Parcels
Today, dao uses handheld terminals in all our parcel shops. They are the Zebra TC26 model with 4G internet via SIM card and Android operating system. The devices work with our app for registering and delivering parcels. With the handheld terminal, the employee in the parcel shop can scan parcels for delivery and then enter the person’s pickup code, ensuring that the parcel is distributed to the correct owner.
“Delfi Technologies is more of a collaboration partner than a hardware supplier. They have helped us to discard all unnecessary features and equipment that we initially didn’t know we didn’t need,” Lars Balsby shares.
Anyone Can Send Parcels with dao
Only 20% of Denmark’s population has a printer. Therefore, we make it easily accessible for everyone to send parcels, where one does not need to print a consignment note or label. The way dao does this is by the sender simply booking the shipment on our website, pakke.dao.as, after which a 9-digit code is generated, which is written on the parcel.
When the sender submits the parcel for shipment in a daoSHOP, the employee in the parcel shop enters the 9 digits into their handheld terminal, which then initiates the printing of a shipping label from their label printer. The handheld terminal is integrated with a Zebra ZD421 label printer in all parcel shops via Bluetooth. This way, a shipping label is affixed to all parcels for shipment, so they can be sorted and scanned correctly in our distribution centers more quickly.
The shipping label also provides a better opportunity to track the parcels during their journey from sender to recipient, and the possibility for both sender and recipient to receive a receipt as soon as the parcel has been scanned. When a parcel is submitted and the label is printed, the sender immediately receives a text message with a receipt for the submitted parcel.
Service Agreement Provides the Necessary Security
We have also opted for a service agreement on the equipment from Delfi Technologies. The service agreement adds extra security and ensures that the devices are covered for any repairs. This helps maintain efficiency and the necessary uptime in the many daoSHOPs, should anything happen to the equipment.
“They handle all service and maintenance. So if what they deliver isn’t up to scratch, then they’re the ones with the problem, and it’s fantastic to have a collaboration partner who also dares to take that responsibility,” Lars Balsby concludes.
