At dao, we are part of history! Our first day as a newspaper carrier officially began on January 1st, 1921. Back then, the majority of the carriers were women who stored the newspapers in baby carriages, when delivering them. Today, much of our deliveries are made on electric scooters, electric bikes, and regular carrier bikes.
We work day and night to ensure that your parcels, magazines, letters, and newspapers arrive safely. As we have done since we started, we will always evolve to strengthen the Danish distribution. So mail and parcels, to and from you, me, the store, city, and countryside, arrive both safely and quickly.
We know that delivery is about you. You, who eagerly run down to the mailbox to pick up your parcel. You, who look forward to diving into this month’s edition of your favorite magazine every month. You, who send important letters every single day, and not least you, who appreciate that the newspaper lands before the morning coffee, once again.
We deliver to everyone, every day, every night, all year round, and always to where it suits you best – to the kiosk, in the mailbox, or right to your door.
dao is owned by JP/Politikens Hus (51%), JFM (32%), and Berlingske Media (17%).
In 2011, we were granted permission for commercial postal transportation (according to Permit no. TS 40101-00002). The permit to operate postal transportation was issued in accordance with § 1 of the announcement no. 727 of June 24th, 2011, of the postal law no. 1536 of December 21st, 2010.

Service objectives for dao as of January 1st, 2024
Delivery frequency: dao delivers 7 days a week.
Quality objectives
dao has set a quality objective of 99.5%.
Quality level in 2023
In 2023, dao had an overall quality of 99.70%. The 0.30% complaints correspond to 270,215 complaints annually out of a total of 92,201,301 transported addressed shipments (newspapers, magazines, and daoHOME). The above covers both CVR no. 26063892 Dansk Avis Omdeling and CVR 54069510 dao Distribution Øst A/S.
All complaints have been justified and resulted in compensation to the sender.
Handling of incoming complaints
All complaints are registered and immediately appear in dao’s systems, which are also used by customers and suppliers. The person responsible for the relevant distribution area ensures that all complaints are answered, so the customer can always see the reason for and handling of the complaint. This provides close supervision of the complaints received by dao, and there is the possibility to intervene in areas where the quality may not be satisfactory.
When your letter has not reached your recipient

To make it easier to understand why your mail is returned to you, we have compiled a list of the most common reasons why your mail has not been delivered.
The distribution of your letter is divided into two phases with us:
Phase 1 – Preparing the product for delivery:
The sorting machine, which sorts the letters and magazines before delivery, has identified the following errors:
Phase 2 – During delivery:
During the actual delivery of the letter/magazine, one of the following has been experienced:
Finally, a failure to deliver may be due to the recipient refusing acceptance, the recipient being unknown at the address, or the letter being mistakenly delivered to the wrong mailbox.
You can find guides and instructions for “The Perfect Letter” and “The Perfect Magazine,” as well as useful information about shipments in our download section.
